FREE! We know—it sounds too good to be true, but it really is free. We cover up to 12 college credits per term at one of our approved college partners and work with you to maximize your time and credits toward your future goals. Many of our students complete an associate’s degree at the same time as their high school diploma. Not sure what you want to do after high school? That’s okay—we’ll help you create a plan with maximum flexibility and transferability for whatever comes next.
We accept 9th–12th grade students who reside in Oregon, based on application deadlines. If you’ve never attended public school before, that’s absolutely fine. It generally takes three years to complete all high school requirements. We accept transfer credit from accredited high schools and colleges.
For students under 15, only high school-level classes are available. Students under 16 may not be eligible to take college classes at certain colleges (as indicated on the application), though they may be able to enroll at another partner college. Students will take placement tests in reading, writing, and math to determine the appropriate college-level courses. Each college partner has its own minimum placement score requirements.
One of the best parts of our program is the personalized attention. From the moment you’re accepted, you’ll be assigned a licensed school counselor who will meet with you several times throughout the year to plan your courses and next steps. Your counselor is your go-to person for all questions and needs. Unlike traditional high schools, where counselors often serve hundreds of students, our counselors work with no more than 100 students to ensure you receive the individual support you deserve.
Your counselor and our college and career specialists will help you plan your next steps throughout your time with us. If you already have a specific career path in mind, let your counselor know early—they’ll help you build a course plan that includes prerequisites and related subjects. The college credits you earn through BEC are guaranteed to transfer to any Oregon public university and are widely accepted by public and private colleges outside of Oregon as well.
To some extent, yes. As a public high school, our primary goal is to support your high school graduation. We’ll make sure you’re enrolled in the courses required to meet Oregon graduation requirements. Within those, you’ll have flexibility in choosing which classes to take. You’ll also need elective credits, and you have full choice in selecting those—we’re always happy to offer ideas if you need them!
While BEC does not have its own sports teams, as an Oregon public charter school student, you are legally entitled to participate in OSAA sports and activities at your local public high school. If you’re interested, we can help coordinate the process.
Your IEP or 504 Plan will transfer with you. We’ll work to ensure your accommodations are in place. However, because our courses are at the college level, they cannot be modified. Accommodations such as extended time or alternate testing locations are allowed. Modifications that alter course expectations—such as reduced homework or assessments—are not permitted. Your counselor and the special education team will help you understand how accommodations apply so we can determine if the program is a good fit.
No problem. We offer a range of options, including all high school classes, all college classes, or a mix of both. We understand that every student is different, and we’ll work with you to build the path that best suits your goals and strengths.
